Off to bed just after one again this morning and then my eyes popped wide open at 7:00. So much for the eight hours of sleep some claim we need. The “House” episode I watched last night was the second of the two-parter from the last disc. It solved the case of the doctor who was on death’s door step but left us hanging as to whether or not he would have some residual problems as a result of his treatment. I think the thing that fascinates me about the show is how many things can go wrong with the human body. It is amazing how many of them have been identified and treatments found. And then, of course, there is the old stand- by of “it’s a virus” when the doctor doesn’t know what is wrong.
It was raining when I got up so I checked the extended weather forecast with the upcoming knitting retreat in mind. With the exception of Saturday, we seem to be looking at some rain through Thursday. I guess I better add the umbrella to my list of things to take.
As I cogitated on two boiled eggs and a piece of toast with Laughing Cow cheese for breakfast, I happened to read: One tablespoon of olive oil has the power to wipe out the cholesterol-raising effects of two eggs. Of course, awhile back I read somewhere else that folks who ate two boiled eggs every day for two weeks lost weight even if they weren’t following a diet. Anyway, I ate the eggs and toast.
On another note, I got an email from Nadine this morning and she said....."I have been reluctant about driving as I get woozy at times. This is between you and me as Joyce would be yelling "You need to go back to the Dr." She said she is supposed to see the heart doctor on Monday anyway. From what Joyce said when she stopped by here yesterday without Nadine, the doctors don't seem to know for sure what is causing Nadine’s dizziness. Hmmmm....
I left here just after eleven for my chiropractic appointment. I got there and discovered he was paying the dentist an emergency visit so I cooled my heels until he arrived. I told him about the episode with my numb and tingling finger yesterday. He said most of the nerves for those come out of the neck. Well, you should have heard my neck pop on that side. No wonder it was numb and tingling, etc.
Then it was on to Gaye’s to get my perm. It was just after noon when I arrived there and after three before I got out of there, all pampered and beautified. I knit on a new faux isle hat while I was there. I’m not crazy about how this one is coming out but I’m going to finish it regardless. I left there and stopped at the grocery store to pick up Bill’s Friday paper. I called Barbara to let her know I was headed in her direction but go no answer. Thinking she was outside or something, I drove over and found she wasn’t home. Since she said she would be home, I was a bit worried that something had happened. Since the van was gone, I figured Barbara was driving so I wondered if Craig had a problem for which she had to take him back to the doctor.
There was nothing left to do but head on over to Nadine’s as promised. We had a nice visit. I gave her the items from the Marathon order that were hers and picked up the things she borrowed the other day that Joyce picked up. I got home from there around five and promptly called Barbara. Turns out the vet called and said she could bring her dog in so it didn’t occur to her to leave a note to let me know. I told her to please not scare me like that again!
Since I’ve been home I’ve tried to call Deanna several times and no one is answering there either. I checked on Terry’s condition earlier in the day. They took him last night and got an x-ray which seemed to indicate that his feeding tube was where it was supposed to be. So they didn’t take him back to the hospital in Seattle. Hopefully all his issues with the new tube will be resolved soon.
I fixed steak and shrimp for dinner tonight and it hit the spot. I’m knitting along on the Upside Downer at the moment and I’m going to watch the last two “House” episodes I have on hand.
Have you ever had a problem in your life that just wouldn't go away, no matter what you did, no matter how hard you prayed about it, no matter how much you trusted God with the outcome, no matter how many times you "thanked" Him for that problem? Were your thanks filled with true gratitude? I am convinced that, many times, the one thing that prolongs our trials is our refusal to give thanks with a grateful and contrite heart.
