I am beyond tired. It has been a very long day. It was pushing 2 o’clock this morning before my peepers finally closed and I was up again shortly after seven. I picked Nadine up at 10:30 and we drove into Port Orchard. Our first stop was Joann Fabrics where I ran into Tami from church. She is the mother of Matthew who does some yard work for us. She told me all about the dress her daughter Sarah just finished to wear in some Civil War re-enactment. Sarah is only 14 or 15 years old and is turning into quite the seamstress.
I got six inches of several “kid” type fabrics for my bibs, pale yellow flannel to line the bibs, some ribbon to make tag-a-long blankies, and a yard each of two cute kitten and yarn pieces of fabric for ??? – oh yes, for my collection! We drove over to the Victorian Rose Tea Room for lunch. This was Nadine’s treat for my birthday – slightly delayed. However, the parking lot was full so we went on to Wal-mart. I returned one of the myriad of tackle boxes Bill bought when he was trying to find just the right one for Reign. Before he was done, he was matching the handle of the tackle box to something on the fishing pole. It was most amusing to watch, but it kept him entertained.
I got a couple of cream colored towels to embroider for a wedding gift. I also got some pink glittery fabric to make a ballet tote for Reign. She isn’t taking ballet but has expressed an interest in it so I thought the bag would be cute for whatever she might want to use it for. I also bought a black tank top, a fuchsia tee top, and a really pretty black shell with a drapey cowl neckline. All three should work under long sleeve shirts for Sundays this summer – if I can find the long sleeve shirts. I love the hummingbird shirt I got last year at Taste of Tacoma. It is a Hana brand but when I look online, I can’t find anything but Hawaiian shirts. We are going to Taste of Tacoma tomorrow so I hope that lady will be there again so I can find out where she gets them. They are roomy and just the right length.
We went back to the Tea Room and had a lovely lunch. We had their Sandwich-Soup or Salad & Pie Special - Half a sandwich, a cup of soup, and a slice of our homemade pie or our warm Victorian Rose bread pudding with cinnamon sauce. I had the curry chicken sandwich while Nadine chose turkey. She had lemon meringue pie and I opted for the bread pudding. We browsed through the gift shop before leaving. Oh yes, the Tea Room is owned by the author Debbie Macomber. She was in there earlier today for lunch. I met her a couple of years ago at a book signing and she buys yarn from my friend Myra, whose website I do.
Our next stop was China Sun for some goodies for Bill. Ok, so I also got the last of their yummy green beans that I like so much for me. Then we stopped into Fred Meyer. We went to the clothes department first. I checked for long sleeve shirts but it is evidently the wrong time of the year. I bought a flowery short sleeve shirt with tank top and matching skirt along with two other two piece tops. Nadine is looking for something to wear to a wedding so she got a Navy two piece outfit. Neither one of us tried them on as it is much easier to do at home. We picked up a few items in the grocery part of the store and then headed back to our neck of the woods. We went into Key Center to pick up the mail and a book I had waiting for me at the library. I dropped Nadine off and got home a little after five.
I had time to check email, eat a bite, and then I was off to rehearsal. By time we were playing, I was winding down and the brain was in dull mode. Debi wasn’t there to play piano so I had to do more piano type stuff on the keyboard. Some of the music I play from is just lead sheets which are written for guitar. That means that they have the chords and words and the melody on them. One of the idiosyncrasies of this is that that write a chord such as G/B. This means a G chord over a B note. I don’t know exactly how that translates for a guitarist, but for a keyboardist, it means I look at the G on the “left” side but I’m to play the chord with my right hand, and I see the B on the right side but I’m to play a B note with my left hand. On a good day, this is doable. On a day when I’m tired, I can’t think backwards and that was my problem tonight. Larry said he kept looking at me and wanting to apologize. I told him I was just very tired and I would be ok with it on Sunday.
The new TV show “Hopkins” starts in a few minutes and since Clint and I spent a lot of time at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, I’m anxious to see the premiere.
