This has been a real do nothing day apart from writing up yesterday’s journal. I don’t have many of those so I guess I won’t feel bad about it. I didn’t get up until about nine, so I really had a good night’s sleep. I talked to Nadine this afternoon and caught up on our news. She hadn’t seen the paper yet so was unaware of the bank robbery and school lockdown yesterday.
It is a good thing we went to the Greek Festival yesterday. As I sat here writing shortly after three this afternoon, breaking TV news reported three huge explosions at a foundry that has been around Tacoma since 1899 when they made iron castings for the Northwest logging industry. Apparently two propane tanks exploded during the refueling process as well as a power substation. The driver of the tanker was airlifted to Harborview and two other guys had leg injuries. If no one was killed in this incident it is nothing short of a miracle! There were all kinds of road closures following this including the ones we would have traveled going to and from the festival. We were quite glad not to be caught in all of the mess surrounding this!
I got word back from the Ft. Worden Knitting Retreat today. As usual, they have more people wanting to go than they have room for. If a person attended last year, they are guaranteed that room again as long as they register by the due date. Anyone who has ever attended before gets next dibs on rooms, and new people get any remaining rooms in the order that they return their registration. Pat said there are usually 10-12 people who can’t come in any given year so in the past she has been able to give rooms to all prior attendees who send in registrations and sometimes 1 or 2 new people. As luck would have it, this year there were only 6 people not returning from last year so even some prior attendees are on the wait list. While she told me I’m # 1 on the wait list, I’m not sure what wait list I’m # 1 on since there are some prior attendees on the wait list. Oh well… She said there are some folks who are not coming until Friday and Saturday, so I can have a room for Wednesday and Thursday night. So I’ll check and see if there is any place I could stay but the problem would be transportation to and from. The other possibility is using a sleeping bag on the floor in Barbara and Julianne’s room. Of course, I might not be able to move after “sleeping” on the floor all night, but we’ll see what happens. Barbara told me not to despair. She thinks something will come up. I guess if it is meant to be it will happen.
I cooked some green beans and ate that with some of the souvlákia that actually made it home last night. Now it is time to try giving my pistol a cleanup with the kit Bill bought me today. Then I can watch one of the movies that are piling up here. All of a sudden I got a stack of books and movies!
