I thank those of you who shared Clint's "final journey" with us. I hope you found inspiration and encouragement as we shared the good and bad moments over the last months until Clint found his way home to Jesus on December 3, 2004. As we journey through the next season of our lives, perhaps something I share here will help others who are also making this painful journey. Celebrating Clint
It was one o’clock before I got into bed this morning. I woke at four but got back to sleep and didn’t wake until 8:30. I was able to stitch out two more of Nancy’s angels before we dressed and headed off to “celebrate Clint” on this fourth anniversary of his “homegoing.” On the way out we passed the UPS truck. I knew he was delivering my thread order. We went into Key Center for the mail and came back by the house so I could put the box in the house and then we were on our way. It was a nice day. We had sunshine and it wasn’t all that cold out. We went to Lennard K’s in Allyn. We split a salad and mini pizza combo like we used to get for Clint and shared an order of steamed clams. It didn’t seem like that much food when we ordered, but we brought half of the pizza home and polished that off tonight as a snack. Then it was over to the park for a walk out on the pier. Bill took this picture of me standing in front of a sailboat that has been moored there for sometime now. I’m wearing Clint’s “Montana elk” tee shirt and my new tailgater jacket.
We headed on over to Port Orchard arriving there about 3:25. The movie time was 3:45 so we stopped off at Joann Fabrics where I looked for some ladybug fabric while Bill went next door to the Dollar Store. I only found one fabric that I liked but I didn’t have time to get it cut since there was a line at the cutting counter. I had a 50% coupon so I wandered around thinking what I could buy that would make good use of the savings and I spied a thread rack The one I have is full and, of course, more thread arrived today although most of that order belongs to Nadine. So I got the $30 rack for $15 and that was a good deal. We met back at the car and discussed whether or not we really wanted to go to the movie or just continue shopping. I think we both wanted to be on the move doing something as opposed to sitting in the theater. We drove to another shopping center where I cruised Rochelle’s Fabrics for ladybugs while Bill checked out Sav-a-lot. No luck for me on the bugs but I got a mini version of the ruler grip I bought a couple of weeks ago. This should be useful as those smaller square rulers are hard to cut around without the thing moving. Or maybe that’s just me! I also bought some black fabric to use with my music jacket. I found Bill in Sav-a-Lot. He was rounding up some more food stuff to take to Tacoma Rescue Mission when he goes into Tacoma tomorrow to the dentist. From there we went to Wal-mart where again, I had no luck finding ladybug fabric. I wasn’t happy with the towels I bought there the other day so I got some that are a little thicker to embroider with my seashells. I also found some small things to put in Linda’s Christmas box. After filling up the gas tank I got Bill to stop by the Dairy Queen so I could get a chocolate/strawberry sundae. Then he stopped at the grocery store to look for a couple things he hadn’t found in his earlier forays. I stayed in the car to finish my ice cream but eventually I had to go into the store and warm up! We made it back home and felt like we did a good job of celebrating Clint. Ann called earlier in the day to wish us well. Beth emailed this morning and called tonight. Ellen sent a lovely email in which she said: Clint would want you to have a good time today. He was a loving child, and if we are alike in some ways, it would be that we both would want you to enjoy life and times. That we remember him with love and faith is all he could have asked. He has that every day. Use this day as a present from him to enjoy in the only way we can. Live, laugh, and LOVE. Having enjoyed the day as best we could, here we are. I finshed a hat. That is only the second one since knit guild last month but I’ve been working on the afghan and the baby sweater. And the baby sweater is finally finished. It is the Lee’s Feels-Great Baby Sweater in their 2 year size. The pattern is by Michele Wyman who passed away from cancer some time back. Anyway, this was fun to do and I have the kid sized patterns so that I can do one for Reign eventually. Barbara is still working along on her adult sized version.
So this day is fading away and I look forward to doing more knitting, quilting and embroidery to give in memory of my precious Clint. He brought just joy into our lives despite the heartache. As I’ve said many times, the world was a better place because Clint was here for a time, and I’m a better person because I was Clint’s Mommy.
