When the phone rang at 10:15 last night, my first thought was “new lungs for Cousin Bill.” However, it was Linda and a major power outage had left much of Oahu, Hawaii, in the dark. She had her oil lamp going and the radio. The word was that it would be at least 12 hours before power was restored. She bemoaned the fact that she was hot without her air conditioner while I bemoaned being snowbound. Quite the contrast, eh? We talked for half an hour and then she was ready to continue listening to her audio book if her battery operated CD player would work. Interestingly, I’m reading Sandra Brown’s “The Alibi” and Linda is listening to her book “Chill Factor.” I told her she didn’t need to send me that one as I read it a couple of years ago.
I resumed reading and knitting. I was on row 35 of 45 rows in the yoke of this Kyler sweater so I put that down and just read until eleven. By then I could hardly keep my eyes open so I went to bed. I was up a little before six this morning and it was 37° out front. I checked the Hawaii online newspaper which said. “The loss of four major transmission lines from Hawaiian Electric's Kahe power plant last night triggered an island-wide blackout.” It sounded like power was restored to her area around 3:50 this morning. And back here in snowy Washington, Bill heard on the news this morning that this was the most snow here since 1950 and the snowiest Christmas since 1940!
My computer was having a terrible case of snail-itis this morning. A reboot helped and I decided to do some more cleanup. I moved some stray .doc and .pdf formats to where they belonged as well as some embroidery designs. I also printed out the guestbook entries from Clint’s Journal since December 23, 2006 and put them in my book. I organized what pix I have on the computer getting rid of all the duplicates. Since Picasa updated to Ver 3 it has some odd problems. I went online and researched that and at least got it working better than it was before, although it is not completely up and running like it should.
Nadine called to say she turned on her computer the other day to find big red letters alerting her to a virus. Her SIL Ted was home and took care of it. I suggested she get a Yahoo email address for all her lists and extraneous mail. Ted had suggested the same thing. I’ve done that and I have now moved all my various lists to the yahoo email address.
Peg’s daughter Sarah, the one who just got the modeling contract, has been modeling for Sharene Skatewear for several years. You can see her latest job HERE and HERE. When she is a rich and famous model I’ll remind her that I knit a skating sweater for her in 2004.
It pays to actually read the pattern. I finished 39 rows of the yoke and then it said “Finish yoke by knitting 3 ridges without increases…” and that was as far as I read. As a result, I had to rip back to row 39 because I was supposed to do some decreases. DUH…..
Bill finally ventured out at 3:30 this afternoon to try moving the car again. With some slipping and sliding, he managed to get into the garage. He didn’t try to go out onto the road. We don’t know for sure that we could get through the pile of snow and slush at the end of driveway much less get to the end of our private road. And then Bill told me that Beth Ann next door told him that the snow plow came through and guess where they pushed the snow? Barbara called tonight and she still hasn’t been out. Craig got home from his trip to Mexico. She got another call that she had to take so she’ll call back later. I have two rows left on the yoke of this sweater so I’ll move along and see if I can actually get past the yoke tonight!
Attempt easy tasks as if they were difficult, and difficult as if they were easy; in the one case that confidence may not fall asleep, in the other that it may not be dismayed." - Baltasar Gracián y Morales
