Christmas is behind us and now we are heading towards a new year. I can remember sitting here on New Year’s Eve 2004 and how strange it felt to be starting a new year without Clint. After dinner last night we watched a couple more Christmas movies – “A Christmas Carol” and “A Christmas Story.” Bill went to bed at ten and after watching the end of “Deal or No Deal,” I happened upon a TV show I’ve never seen called “Eleventh Hour.” It caught my attention because it was about three autistic teenagers who went missing for a month and then return with Savant abilities. I read for a bit and then went to bed to continue reading.
I woke up today pondering what I wanted to do. I needed to finish up the little Christmas gift for Nadine before I saw her again but when I got back to the factory, I couldn’t find the pieces. I decided to sort all the cotton fabric that was covering my knitting machine and in the process of doing that I found the project. I finished the sorting and, with a foot high pile of fabric on the ironing board, I sat down to sew the little mini wall hanging together. Since I wasn’t paying attention, I sewed the front and back pieces together wrong and had to rip that out. Oh well, what would a day be without a boo boo!
When I was done with that I decided that since the knitting machine was cleared off I would knit a hat. I chose several colors and made a two layer hat. I used two colors on the first one and three on the second one making it reversible. Here are the hats along with the Lillie sweater.
A couple of the neighbors called today to see if we were still stuck and if we needed anything. At that time Bill had not been out to see if he could move the car but he had no plans to go anywhere. We also heard from Barbara. She still has a foot of snow around her van so she hasn’t moved either. She said that the carton of milk her friend brought her the other day had sprung a leak. At three o’clock Bill put on his raingear and headed down to the car. I watched to see if he could get going. He was able to move forward a bit, although it wasn’t easy. But he kept hitting one spot that he couldn’t get past. He backed down one more time but got out of the tracks so then he got stuck in that spot which was about 30 feet forward of where he was parked last night. He hiked back up to the house. I called Barbara to tell her what happened. She had just talked to Julianne who told her that we were just having a problem because we don’t know how to drive in the snow. Barbara told her that was the end of their conversation. She didn’t care for that attitude one bit. And, of course, it is an absurd statement.
Bill fixed the turkey thighs for dinner tonight. The two thighs were huge. I can only image what size the turkey must have been! I talked to Nadine tonight and she had been out all day with her g’son Jared. She said that once you get out of our area and onto the main roads those are fine. Then I talked to Deanna who lives in Tacoma. She said the side streets are still a mess. I did talk with Wanda briefly this morning. All her company had left for home so she was finally able to get back on her computer.
I’m going to post this and get back to knitting the Kyler Cardigan. I’m on row 31 of 38 rows on the yoke. Unlike the Lillie sweater, this one has you knit the sleeves before the body so we’ll see how that goes.
