I was watching an interesting movie last night called “Songcatcher” when I got a call from Nadine at 10:15. She asked if I had looked out the window. I hadn’t, but I did and the ground was covered with snow! Meantime, the movie was about a gifted musicologist who visited her sister – a school teacher - in Appalachia. She stumbled upon a treasure trove – dozens of Scots-Irish ballads preserved for generations by the local populace but unknown to the outside world. The movie was about her collecting the songs as she comes to admire the locals who live and tough existence without complaint.
It was 28° this morning but no more snow fell during the night. I was able to make it to and from church with no problem but the thermometer never got any higher today. As I’m writing just after eight o’clock tonight we’ve had more snow and it is 27°. Things went fine at church although the attendance was down due to the weather. The school kids were supposed to perform at the early service but that got cancelled since a number of them couldn’t get there. I wore one of my new sleeveless turtlenecks – the red one – with my green wool jacket. That was just perfect. As cold as it was outside, I would have been too warm inside with long sleeves under that jacket. It is along the lines of a boiled wool and VERY toasty.
Nancy was there today and looked good. She said a friend of theirs had given her a back massage and it had done wonders for her shoulder – the site of the metastasized melanoma. They are going to be with family over next weekend so I said, “When are you going?” She replied, “The Lord hasn’t told me yet.” Funny lady.... She knew full well I meant her “family” trip, not her “heavenly” trip! But it is good she can have a sense of humor about it.
Bill was on the phone when I came in the door. It was Clara, Doris’ mom calling to thank me for my belated birthday card. We haven’t talked in awhile so it was good to hear from her. She said Frank and Doris will arrive there next Sunday night. When I finished talking with her I had some of the minestrone Bill brought home from The Pomodoro yesterday. Yummy as always. Then I went back and embroidered a hand and bath towel set for Dawn as shown here along with the knit theme waffle weave towel I did yesterday.

Long about four o’clock Bill asked if I wanted to cook lamb for dinner. I said that was fine with me. He first suggested I fix it like last time but then pulled out a package of Knorr Goulash and let that simmer along while I finished the towel. Bill also wanted a wild rice dish. Not wanting another fiasco like last week, I pulled out my trusty old rice cooker and used that. It takes a lot longer than in the microwave but I didn’t wind up with crispy rice like last week.
Now I’m going to have the last of my strawberries and a Hawaiian Cornflake Krunch cookie (from Linda) and then get back to my wavy scarf. I have about 40 inches done on it now and it looks like the one 2.5 ounce skein might be enough.
Live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget - The people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.
