Today was the long awaited day! I was wakened just after seven by a company I ordered something from the other day. They had a question about my shipping address. When I got off the phone I got up and put the coffee on. I printed out some Christmas cards for the girls and then got some of the Angel Project cards ready to mail out today.
Nadine turned up early so I wasn’t quite ready. We were off and going just after 10:30 as scheduled. It was rainy, cold and messy out. I have a hard time remembering to turn the headlights on in Nadine’s car since mine come on automatically so we were driving around most of the day in the mess without the lights on! We arrived as some of the other gals were arriving. We had a long table in the main room and everyone but Susie and Kathy turned up. Even Vi popped by before we left. Here are the girls…..
(l-r) Patti, me, Deanna, Mary, Ginger, Jackie, Ellie, Grace, Nadine, Carol V.
The food and fellowship was great. I hadn’t seen or talked to Patti in ages so I was happy to sit next to her and catch up on the news. She is contemplating get the new machine. At almost 700,000 stitches on my new machine, I’ve outdone the rest of the Deanna and Mary so far. Grace hasn’t gotten hers yet. No one else has or is getting the new machine at this point unless Patti bites the bullet.
After lunch we pulled out the gifts for the exchange and put our names in the bag. I was the second one to be drawn so I selected a really neat looking bag.

As it turned out this was from Jackie who is new to the group. She and her husband are the ones Ellie and George go camping with over to Eastern Washington during the summer. She came to our last “do” but apparently Ellie didn’t tell her that we are a “sewing” group. She crochets so her gift was a yarn-tainer like I bought two of before Barbara and I went to Fort Worden. It is ironic, first of all, that of all the folks there today I was the one who selected her gift as it was perfect for me. Secondly, it was ironic that the one she gave was the medium size since that is the one of the three I don’t have. How about that! There was also a Yarn cutter on a lanyard so it can be hung around your neck. You can what it looks like HERE.
Since Carol V was there today, I gave her the moose plate and towel I got for her last year. I had only seen her once since then and didn’t have them with me. Other than that I gave Deanna the things I had for her and Mary. Since Ellie had decided “we” all wouldn’t exchange gifts, we did this outside so as not to upset anyone. This is what I got from Deanna – a rather unique pin cushion. I don’t know if she made it or not but I certainly won’t lose this one on the dining room table. My regular “tomato” one is always getting lost under the “pile.”

I went over to the gift shop part of the building to see if I could find anything else to add to Linda’s box. I found the cutest little ballerina doll to give Reign. It is about three inches tall. I got Linda a hummingbird sun catcher so Linda can have a hummingbird to remind her of Clint – or whatever. They also had notepads with names on them and I found a “Linda” one.
It was after 1:30 by time Nadine and I left there and went across to Joann Fabrics. I bought a couple pieces of ladybug fabric and a couple of baby quilt kits that were on sale. I ran into Alethea there so we “visited” before leaving. Nadine suggested a trip to Dairy Queen for ice cream so we had a Peppermint Chip Blizzard and then went to the grocery store. She was buying some dates for Joyce and I bought a couple of small lobster tails that were on sale for $4.99 each. I was too stuffed to eat them tonight, but I plan on having them tomorrow night for sure!
We headed towards home and stopped off at the church at 3:45 so I could pick up the Christmas cards I ordered. I started to turn left onto Bethel-Burley Road but saw police lights flashing so went right instead. We went into Key Center to pick up Nadine’s mail. As we started out of that parking lot a Medic truck went by. We got up to the stop sign and heard another siren so we stayed put and along came a fire truck. As we followed the fire truck Nadine’s cell phone rang. It was Bill worrying about us because it would soon be dark and it had been stormy all day. We assured him we were safe and sound and almost home.
I bid Nadine goodbye and got all my stuff in the house and here I am. I finished this hat since I’ve been home.

It is knit with Moda Dea Sassy Stripes yarn and turned out really great. I heard from Barbara with the news that Balinda down the road here had her baby – a boy they named William after her father. And he was born on December 3, Clint’s “homegoing” anniversary. He weighed 7lbs, 9oz. So I need to get a baby gift done for him. When I sign off tonight I’ll resume knitting on the wavy scarf in hopes of finishing it by Christmas Eve so I can give it to Debi at church. Meantime, here is Reign’s newest school picture. Hard to believe she is only going on 10 years old.
