We got up just before eight this morning. The guy from the county crime lab arrived at eight and picked up Bill’s “evidence” from the burglary for fingerprinting. This was only after Bill raised a bit of a ruckus about it yesterday. His friend Mike had told him you can walk into their office and drop things off and since he was a sheriff for years, we figure he knows that to be true. Of course, the lab tries to tell you different. After Bill made enough noise, they acquiesced. That doesn’t mean they’ll actually do anything with it.
This was “storm watch” day. My Calendar Pal said the wind wouldn’t get over 20-21 mph where we are but time would tell. Bill shoved me out the front door to run errands around eleven.
As I drove down the far side of the driveway I spotted a doe. I stopped and called Bill and then slowly drove on out. I got to the grocery store and realized I left the list at home. Nothing new for me! I called Bill and he said there were three deer – a doe and her two spring fawns. When I got home almost an hour later, I slowly rounded the corner and was a third of the way up the drive before I spotted the deer up in the grass by the walnut tree. I called Bill again. He didn’t even realize they were still there. I backed up and went around to the other drive. I got out of the car and took some photos. They aren’t great and this was the only one I got with all three of them in it. They are so near the same color as the grass that it is hard to see them.

I heated up a Weight Watcher Chicken Enchilada Suiza entrée for lunch. Afterwards, I wrote and told them that was the worst one of those I’ve ever had, not that any of them are great. The Healthy Choice meals are far superior for that sort of thing, and some of the Lean Cuisines aren’t bad either.
The wind finally started kicking up at 1:07 p.m. It kept tripping my surge protector. By 2:15, we were getting 28 mph wind gusts according to my personal weather report. Leaves were flying around like snowflakes. I didn’t want to run my embroidery machine even though I have that on a power pack/surge protector so I just hung out at my dining room computer. We did some “in case” stuff like showers, laundry, etc. We haven’t forgotten the 7 1/2 days we were powerless last December!
I finally put on the Ruth Rendell movie I started last night called “Master of the Moor.” It was dark and gloomy like the weather so it fit right in. By 3:30 we were having 44 mph wind gusts, then up to 48 mph an hour or so later. The phone rang about 5 o’clock and some small child’s voice came on the line. Turned out it was Reign calling to thank me for the sweat shirt. She said she’s been wearing it almost every day.
I chatted with Dawn for a bit and then I left her with Bill because I had to eat dinner before time to head out for rehearsal. The wind gusts were back down to 36 mph by then. The “gusts” were just occasional, not constant.
Bill was overjoyed when Jeff called at 5:50 and said there was no power at the church so no rehearsal. Bill spent two days trying to talk me out of going and I was changing my shoes and getting ready to head off when Jeff called. He had been trying to get through but couldn’t since Bill was on the phone with Dawn. Listening to the evening news, a woman had a tree crash through the center of her house but she wasn’t injured. Another woman was hit by a tree in a shopping mall parking lot and is in the hospital with serious injuries. A woman and her 9 year old daughter walked away from a car that a tree landed on with only minor injuries! So the wind is definitely nothing to mess around with. But I believed, and rightly so, that if I shouldn’t be going, God would make it clear. And as if the effects of the wild weather weren’t enough, Tacoma firefighters have rescued a worker who suffered a broken leg 100 feet up in a tower on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and 13 cars on a train derailed this morning. No shortage of news here today!!!
Lest we wind up with no power somewhere along the way tonight, I’m posting early.
