I munched some popcorn, watched “Shark” and a bit of the news last night and actually went to bed early. Bill woke me from a nightmare at 6:30 this morning. Stress related, I guess, as he pointed out I haven’t really done that since Clint was sick and I don’t have a fever, the other thing that triggers them in me.
The weatherman was right about soggy this week. It was raining when it came time to trek the garbage down for pickup so I made one trip. I wasn’t in the mood to walk in the rain. I don’t seem in the mood to do much when it comes right down to it. I finished the Hip Knit Hat from yesterday and decided to do something different so I started a mock cable scarf for a “diversion.” The purple on the hat is knit stitches and the red is purl stitches.

Bill left word about nine for his specialist to call. Never heard a word from her! He got a hold of the nurse in his primary care physician’s office a little after noon and got an appointment for ten tomorrow. So that took care of my plans to attend Sew Fun tomorrow. I should still be able to run some of the errands I had on my list. He seems to be better today. He hasn’t been back to bed since he got up and he is eating part of a French dip as I write. I tried one of those Lean Cuisine chicken, spinach and mushroom Paninis. They claim you can cook them in the microwave. Yeah, if you don’t mind tough bread. It was good aside from that so if I get another one, I’ll thaw it out and cook it in the toaster oven. I figured that would be the case, but you don’t know until you try. Bill asked me if I had heard about the Healthy Choice Café Steamers. I had not so I investigated. They have some tasty sounding food and all have the Weight Watcher points and average 4-6 points for a meal. I’m anxious to try them.
It was mid-afternoon before I could talk myself out of the house to run errands. I’ve had an attack of the blues/blahs today. But it was a good thing I went since we had four packages at the post office! Gaye came in behind me at the credit union so we chatted. I asked the teller if the bank robber has been caught but she said not yet. I went to the library and chatted with Barbara and Candy, then filled up five water jugs at the fire station. With all this water I’m drinking we’re going through it at a pretty good clip. I got the French Dip at Lisa’s Deli per his request. She told me how good it was to see him last Friday when he stopped in for my clam chowder. I told her what happened. On to the grocery store for my Panini. Lisa has them but I would have had no idea how many points I was consuming. I was also hungry from some baby lima beans. I’m not good about eating veggies like I should. I’ve been pretty good with the fruit over the summer. Today I was actually down ten pounds. Yippeeeeeeeeeee!!!
I better see if I can watch a couple of the movies that are coming due.
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions. However one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened - everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me?" he cried.
Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.
It's easy to get discouraged sometimes when things appear to be going badly. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God!
For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves,
God has a positive answer for it.
