I got up this morning trying to decide whether or not I wanted to go to the Crazy Patch Club meeting. I finally concluded it just wasn’t something I wanted to do today. Bill was still upset over losing the photos in his stolen briefcase, but he looked through a couple of photo albums in the living room and found some pictures he had put in there. That brought some comfort. I know how upset I would be to lose precious Clint photos! Bill’s long time friend Dick referred us to a guy he knows who installs alarms systems so his son is going to get out here and see if there is some type of siren alarm that would work for us. I guess there is even some kind of alarm that calls your cell phone. We’ll see.
Bill went into Key Center for the mail, etc. I was told not to even go to the door if anyone I didn’t know came up. I think I can safely say there was no danger of that! I could see the front door in the reflection of a picture on the wall so I could see without being seen. I would, however, have been getting a license plate number if a car had come up here.
After he got home, Nancy Drew and Rambo went sleuthing. We drove out our road and stopped at a spot where an old road goes down into the woods. I stayed in the car with one of the walkie talkies, the cell phone and the keys in the ignition “in case” while Bill walked down the trail. He could soon tell no one had been down there, and certainly no vehicle. So we moved on down to the next trail and I resumed “watch” mode once more while “Rambo” trailed off into the woods. He soon called to say he saw a nice deer trail. Next he reported numerous old tires, then a bicycle.
Then he came upon a big wide trail which he decided must be the horse trail we’ve heard about going through our area. The girl next door rides her horse down there from what he could tell. He walked down it a little ways, and then resumed his trek down to the creek bed. He saw no signs of a vehicle going that far, and no evidence of any hiding or dumping of stolen property. He told me he was coming back out and estimated it would take him at least 20 minutes. I said, “Since it is going to take you 20 minutes to walk out, can I dash home, go potty and come right back.” It’s obvious I need not apply for the job of a police stake-out!
Bill appeared just as I pulled back into the trailhead. Then we drove the uphill road and checked out another area or two where someone could have stashed or dumped stuff. Nothing. So much for Nancy Drew and Rambo!
I embroidered a small design on a piece of fleece to make a cute baby hat from a new pattern I got the other day. I just have to serge the two pieces together, and that will be done. After we got back home I worked on a piece of quilted Hawaiian fabric I bought while visiting Linda last year. I had to tie off a bunch of threads that were coming undone on the cut edges. Boo hiss…. When that was done, I pinned the quilted piece to some backing fabric, then serged around the edges. I decided to call Harbor Quilts and see if I needed to tack the backing down or just bind it and go since the front piece was already quilted. The lady suggested I tie it every 6-8 inches so I’m working on that with some cotton yarn I have on hand. Now I have to find something to bind it with unless I can squeak a binding out of the 12 inches of backing I have left. I’ll cross that bridge tomorrow.
Bill fried up some Italian sausage tonight. The delicious smell was making me crazy (and hungry!). But a sausage is about 8 points so I wasn’t going there. Oh yes, I weighed in with a four pound weight loss this morning for the first week. I pulled a Healthy Choice dinner out of the freezer – Asagio Chicken Portobello. It was a 6 point meal, but I left off the cherry cobbler dessert and had some Bing cherries instead. I still have 11 points left to use today, so I’ll indulge in some wild mountain blackberry ice cream when I’m done here.
After dinner I get to messing around with the Mall Crawl. I’m searching the participating shops for blocks for the Mall Crawl quilt pattern. Since I don’t have a movie to watch, that is an ok way to spend the evening as I knit on a hat.
Speaking of knitting, I sent in my application today for the Fort Worden Knitter’s Retreat Oct 31 – Nov 4. They have a lot of repeat business so I may or may not get accepted. We’ll see. As I told Bill, if it is meant to be it will work out; if not, it won’t.
That said, I’m off to eat ice cream and “mall crawl.”
If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to place everything in your life in God's hands – and that means everything. Remember, He has the whole game plan and is in control anyway. Quit trying to shove Him out of the way. You’ll be awed at how greatly you’ll be blessed for letting go. - Bonnie Ricks, Dogwood Ministries
