I’m running late tonight as it was Knit Club night. I finally made it to the knitting guild where all my hats have been going. It was pushing nine by time I got up this morning and the day flew by. I talked to Deanna this morning to see if there were any colors of hat she did NOT want. She said not a yellow or green one. I also talked to Nadine. She bought a sewing machine for $10 and then ordered the felting attachment.
Then I got busy stitching away on the bear with a flute and next thing I knew it was time to get a shower and dress. I dressed early because I thought Bill wanted me to cook his pig heart before I left. But he said he would wait until I could share it with him. Oh goodie….. I eat beef, venison and chicken hearts but the thought of pig heart somehow seems gross.
I left at 5:15 and went to Office Depot to get ink for my printer since I never could find the ones I bought at Wal-mart. The clerk told me I should stock up on yellow as that cartridge has the least amount of ink and Hewlett Packard has a hard time keeping up with the demand. Since the color cartridges all look the same size that sounds sort of lame, but I’ll get some extra yellow the next time I’m in there. I ran into the bank to deposit a check and stopped at Wok Teriyaki to pick up some hot and sour, wonton and miso soups.
I got to Barbara’s a few minutes early. I got out of my car, loaded my stuff into her van and her dogs never even barked. I finally went to the door. She told the two dogs she was going to fire them as guard dogs! We got to the Lakewood Senior Center by 6:45 and several ladies were already there knitting away. The meeting got underway at seven as Gladys, the president, made announcements, handed out some patterns, and told about some new products on the market. Gladys introduced me to the group, then they went around the table and everyone introduced themselves to me. In the middle of this, three other new ladies showed up so we went around again.
The first show and tell was for the projects we were working on. Per Barbara’s request I also showed a serger blanket and told about my Clint Quilts. I also showed one of my embroidered towels, the little mini magnet quilts and the flute bear. Barbara had a big wool afghan and Julianne (our other partner in crime at the Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat and my roommie at that event) showed the shrug she had finished and the one she is knitting on. This is the same pattern I’m doing. She can’t find her pattern and I can’t find mine. What a pair! Two ladies had prayer shawls, one was knitting a scarf with some wool her daughter brought her from New Zealand, another lady showed a baby jacket and a horse theme sweater for her granddaughter. Two ladies were knitting socks and another one was doing the embroidery on a wool hat she was knitting for a friend’s six month old baby. The granddaughter of one lady was knitting a scarf, and another lady was knitting a fun fur scarf.
Next came show and tell for the charity knitting. Gladys had nine hats knit by her daughter and 12 crocheted by someone. Other ladies showed one hat, four hats, nine hats, etc., and when it came to Barbara she told them for her charity knitting she brought me and I proceeded to dump my 99 hats out on the table. Yes, you might say a few mouths fell open. So they now have my 202 hats! Will I stop? Of course not. In fact, I came home with five skeins of yarn in colors I don’t have from their yarn bin.
We were done and out the door about 8:30.
It was after 9:30 by time I got home and I had a pastrami sandwich since all I had eaten today was a bowl of cereal for breakfast and some wonton soup this afternoon. Now it is going on 11 p.m. and bedtime approaches. Tomorrow is another day…
He is coming! “Star of Morning,”
All the faithful caught away,
When the trumpet, in a moment,
Ushers in the glad new day. —Dimmock
God’s whisper of comfort quiets the noise of our trials.
