I’m happy to report that I finished the quilt at 12:40 Thursday morning except for attaching the label. I will do that today so we can give it back to Trudy tomorrow. Of course, we may very well have to ship it to her as she may not have enough room to carry it with her on the plane.
We left here at 9:30 yesterday morning so I could get the cracked nose pad on my glasses replaced and drop off my sewing machine for a “service” since I won’t be around for a few days to use it. We arrived at eleven to pick up Trudy. We saw Cole, the newest addition to the family, for the first time since he was born in April. We gave Trudy the quilt and she seemed thrilled with it.

Our first stop for Trudy’s birthday “do” was lunch at The Kabuki. We took her there last year when she was visiting and she really liked it. Bill ordered his favorite salad, sunomono, which has slices of cucumber and pieces of octopus. Trudy and I were happy to let him have ALL the octopus. Bill and his mom shared beef teriyaki while I had a Spider Roll (sushi with soft shell crab) and Veggie Tempura.
From there we went to NW Trek. It was a beautiful day for our outing and we had a delightful 55 minute tram ride around the park. There were plenty of animals out and about as you can see from the pictures. And you can also see from the pictures how close some of them were to the tram! After the tram ride we walked around and saw black bear, grizzly bears, wolves, lynx, bobcats, (cougar was hiding), beavers, otters, raccoons, wolverines. It was almost 4:30 by time we finished with all this and we were due for dinner at 5 o’clock.
A final visit to the gift shop took longer than expected so as we headed toward Alexander’s Country Inn, I called and they moved our reservation to 5:30 which is about the time it was when we finally arrived. We had reserved a booth by the window overlooking the garden. Trudy and I began dinner with sweet potato soup, something new to both of us. Bill had salad with the apple cider vinaigrette the liked so well when we were there for our anniversary dinner in July. We all ordered the fresh trout for dinner.
After dinner Bill took pictures of me and Trudy with the quilt.

This is the panel I bought when I was visiting Wanda last year.
And here is the finished quilted throw. There are pictures of the back of the quilt and the embroidery that was done on the contrast fabric sections above and below the panel in the Photo Album.
We walked up behind the inn to show Trudy the trout pond. There was a huge heron at the far end of the pond. I took this picture of Bill with his mom standing in front of the trout pond.
We finally left there and down the highway a bit Bill turned off onto a dirt road. We drove for what seemed like miles until we came to a spot where Mt. Rainier stood right in front of us.
It was an awesome sight to behold and we watched until the pinks of the sunset began filtering across the mountain, as we tried to capture in this photograph.
It was dark by time we got back down the mountain and on the highway headed back to Tacoma. We dropped Trudy off about ten o’clock and it was elevenish by time we got home, unloaded the car, etc. I was too pooped to do the journal so here I am today.
I need to go sew the label on Trudy’s quilt. We will leave in the morning to take Trudy to brother Doug’s house. We will not be home again until late Tuesday night. I do not know if I will be able to upload the journal while I’m away or not, so I’ll see you when I see you.
