I just got off the phone with Marie. She was driving down the highway on her way to the vet hospital with her dog Liam. She was driving and sobbing and talking to me at the same time. It sounds like he has a bowel obstruction. If so, the vet is talking several thousands of dollars for surgery. I think she needed my blessing to say “no.” Especially since he could have surgery, if the diagnosis is correct, and still die and this is one of those things that once you get it, it is a repeating kind of thing. I told her to call me later when she knows what is going on so I hope she will.
I made the mistake of staying in bed 15 minutes after the alarm went off this morning. When I found some orders to deal with that messed me up and I was late picking up Nadine. No big deal. We picked up Ellie and still arrived before Sew Fun started. In the first part she showed a number of things done on the serger. Several of them were garments made from chiffon and silk type fabrics. I’m not sure I’d get up enough nerve to make anything from those kinds of fabric, much less serge on them! Then we had our break so everyone could shop. I was just winding up my purchase when she started to call out numbers for the door prizes. Georgette (clerk) asked me if I had my ticket. I ran over to get it out of my fanny pack and pulled it out as the gal called out 411 – and guess what - I was the winner!!! Me, who never wins anything! I got a pattern for “Holiday Holly” a wholecloth quilt. Too bad it wasn’t something I might actually use. Oh well…
Then came Show & Tell. I showed the little mini magnet quilt I did for Ellen and Trudy’s unfinished quilt. Everyone seemed to think it was great so here’s hoping I can finish it tomorrow. Although, we are going to be taking Trudy up brother Doug’s house on Saturday, so if I can’t finish tomorrow, I’ll have Friday to work on it.
The second part of club dealt with fabric dyeing, painting on fabrics, using stencils, using Paintstiks, etc. Again, not something I’m ever likely to do. Like I need one MORE new thing to try. I told Ellie and Nadine later that even though nothing she showed today really yanked my chain, at least it made me want to do some sewing and embroidery once I finish with Trudy’s quilt.
After Sew Fun we went to Joann Fabrics so I could exchange my light bulb. The clerk discovered that I already had the right number bulb. I told her that I put it in both ways and it wouldn’t work and showed her my mangled fingers. She had a saleslady meet me over by the Ott Lites and I talked her into plugging my light bulb into the light like mine to see if it worked. As she removed the bulb from the lamp, it slipped through her fingers and hit the floor. Oops! Anyway, we discovered that my bulb did work, but it sure was a lot easier to get in and out of her lamp than it was mine. Tomorrow I will have to see if I can figure out why my lamp isn’t working. She said to call Ott as they are very good about these things. We’ll see…
From there we went to Ihop for lunch. Nadine usually gives me gas money for driving but today she had an Ihop coupon and treated me to lunch. Ellie had her usual chicken crepe while Nadine and I had the Clubhouse Spinach Salad. It had fresh spinach topped with hickory smoked bacon pieces, tomatoes, shredded Parmesan, Bleu cheese crumbles and diced grilled chicken breast tossed in Honey Mustard dressing and served with a yummy piece of Garlic Toast. We both took about half of it home since it was huge. That was my dinner tonight. What a good girl am I? Although I’m going to have some sugar free ice cream with strawberries and blueberries when I finish up here.
We headed back across the Narrow’s Bridge and dropped Ellie off. When we got to Nadine’s, I installed her embroidery machine upgrade. She introduced me to a wonderful low carb, low calorie drink called Fuze that I had not seen before. And I see they have a “Slenderize” so I have to find this and fast.
It was after five by time I got home and Bill filled me in on the upcoming weekend happenings with his mother. We will have our birthday “do” with her on Thursday and then we’ll pick her up on Saturday and take her to brother Doug’s house. We’ll either stay there part of the weekend or go off somewhere else, then take her to see Dawn (Bill’s daughter) on Monday or Tuesday, then take her to the airport Tuesday night on our way home so she can fly out Wednesday morning.
So that was all my excitement for today. Back to work tomorrow.
