Admittedly I was too tired to go online when I got home at eight last night. I unpacked my suitcase and then, after I sat a spell, I thought I would at least check email. I turned on the computer and discovered that I couldn’t connect to the internet. Oh boy! The computer couldn’t “find” the router in the back room and I was too tired to fiddle with it for long. I shut the computer down and hoped that when I rebooted this morning it would resolve the problem.
I had hoped to sleep longer than eight this morning but that wasn’t the case. Of course, that is one and one half hours later than I’ve gotten up for the last four days! I turned on the computer and found that the “problem” did not go away during the night. I heated up the back room so I use the computer back there and see if there was something wrong with the router. That computer worked fine so I was able to download my email. I even took this computer to the back to see if it could pick up the router if it was closer to it but that didn’t help either.
In the throes of major distress, I called TK (one of the music team at church who is a computer expert) and told him the situation. He said he would come over and take a look. He arrived at 12:15, putzed around and eventually solved the problem. In his words, “the computer lost its mind and dropped the old connection.” I’ve used the computer on other networks numerous times over the years and never had that happen before. In fact, I did that in Seattle at the motel. We discussed some other issues with my computers such as upgrading the memory to 1 gig in the computer in the back. TK said he rebuilds his computers every couple of years but we weren’t sure that it would be worth doing with as many problems as I’ve had with this one. Food for thought….
With that I’ll call it a night for writing. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be up to writing about the retreat.
