I couldn’t quite decide which project I wanted to start last night while we watched “The People’s Choice Awards” and Barbara Walter’s interview with Patrick Swayze and his wife about his battle with pancreatic cancer. He has survived an amazing 10 months when most folks in Stage 4 are gone within weeks or months. As for the project, I pulled out a skein of blue yarn and started another one of the wavy scarves. I started it on size 10 needles. This morning I ripped that out and redid it on size 13 needles which will make it go much faster.
For the sake of all those folks endangered by flooding, I was happy to see it wasn’t raining when I got up at 6:30 this morning. According to the news “Flooding that we haven't seen in generations is occurring on some area rivers from all of the rain over the past few days.” That’s right up there with all the snow we hadn’t seen in generations! At least the worst is over. Some of the pictures I’ve seen are awesome and I’m thankful we don’t live on a river!!! The sun came out this afternoon and that nearly blinded us after numerous grey and rainy days.
I took care of some orders today and then spent some time entering stuff into QuickBooks that didn’t get done as I went along. I try to keep up but I always leave things undone when I’m busy with other things. We got a call from our nephew Jeremy, the one in the Army, and it looks like he is going to be stationed at Fort Lewis up here. That’s all we know about that at the moment. After talking to him, Bill headed off on the daily mail run and I decided to get myself out from in front of the computer and just relax with my knitting and a book.
As it turned out, I didn’t get to the book because I spent half of the time Bill was gone on the phone with American Disposal waiting to ask why we still had not had our recycle picked up. At least I was able to put the call on the speaker phone and knit while I listened to their recorded spiel half a dozen times. Not long after Bill got home we heard someone coming and there appeared someone to pick up the recycle.
I left for rehearsal at 6:15. Just before I reached the turnoff to Barbara’s house there was a “water over the road” sign. Apparently Minter Creek had overflowed. It wasn’t there yesterday when I went by going to and from church. We had a good rehearsal. A young guitarist named Tyler joined us. I don’t know what family in the church he belongs to. Vonnie is still having neck pain and wasn’t there. I knew Debi wouldn’t be there and gave the group an update on her. And Dan is joining us now that he has retired from his job.
It was almost nine by time I got home from church. I told Bill the story Larry told us. A guy who had water flowing down his hill decided to take his tractor and cut out a path for the water to divert to. Next thing he knew, the whole hill fell off. Oops! I had an email from Barbara wondering if I am ok since she hasn’t heard from me in several days. I would have called her except “Grey’s Anatomy” came on and I got caught up watching that even though I’ve never watched it before. She goes to bed by ten so I’ll email her when I’m done here.
I chatted briefly with Wanda this morning. She was waiting for a call to pick up her “girls” from their grooming appointment. Lucy went willingly this morning but Angela balked and bit Wanda. Wanda said she got a shot on Tuesday so she was skeptical. So Wanda took Lucy in and came back and finally got Angela to go with her to “find Lucy.” Whatever works.
The new scarf is 30 inches long so that is good progress for the day. I wonder when I’ll ever get around to entering some books in the new inventory program. Tomorrow is another day…..
