I tried to finish reading my book last night before I fell asleep but I didn’t quite make it. So that was the first thing I did this morning. Then I printed out some patterns for my first two orders of the New Year and sent Bill off to the post office. I was watching an auction on EBay and managed to get in the winning bid at 10:21 this morning.
I left for church at one to play for Mary Schumacher’s memorial service. I started playing 20 minutes beforehand as some of the family was already seated. Two o’clock arrived and I looked for Pastor Dale to come up and start the service. He was nowhere in sight. Another five minutes passed and still no Pastor Dale. I was reminded of a funeral I played for many years ago where it came time for the service to start and the body had not arrived. So I played and played and played some more until it finally arrived. Pastor Dale finally came over at ten past and said that even though some people were still arriving, we would go ahead and start. We had a packed house as I knew we would. I talked to Darald (the soundman) when I first arrived and he told me Debi fell and hurt her back and was confined to bed rest. Oh my…
It was going on four by time the service was over and I was done playing. I headed for the kitchen and partook of an egg salad sandwich from the vast array of food folks had brought. My raspberry jelly doughnut from early this morning had long since worn off. I chatted with several friends, assured Larry I would be there bright and early tomorrow morning, then hit the road home arriving here a little before five.
I called Debi and learned that she did not fall. She doesn’t really know how she hurt her back but it started in Christmas Eve. They had planned to drive up to Canada on Christmas but she was in too much pain. She finally went to Urgent Care on Friday and they didn’t even take an x-ray. They just gave her some pain meds. It took her until Sunday before she could finally sleep. She said that she takes the pills every six hours and by the fifth hour she feels the pain again. I pointed out that she has no idea if she is getting better or not since the pain meds just mask the pain. She is supposed to go back to school on Monday but she isn’t supposed to drive on these meds. She also plans to get an appointment to see a doctor, although she said she is between doctors at the moment. We caught up on any news since last we talked saying good-bye.
I actually managed to do some organizing tonight! I put a whole bunch of knitting patterns into a binder I bought the other day. Yippeee…. I’ll put quilting patterns into the other binder I got. Then I hope to index them before I run out of enthusiasm for organizing! Now I’m off to finish knitting a hat and whatever else catches my attention.
To bless God for mercies is the way to increase them; to bless Him for miseries is the way to remove them. - William Dyer
