How could I forget! I autographed my first book last night at Knit Guild. One of the three Mary’s had purchased the book and brought it for me to sign. Of course, I had an acute senior moment and couldn’t think of anything to say in the small space I had to write except “Happy Knitting!” Duh….. Also, I called Linda at 12:15 (10:15 her time) and woke her up! That surprised me. Anyway, I wanted to find out if she ever got the book I had sent to her from the Book Club for Christmas. She got it a couple days after we last talked so I didn’t have to start tracking it down today.
I dozed off and on from 6:30 until almost 8:30 this morning before finally crawling out of bed. It’s amazing how much time passes sitting in front of the computer. I wasted a fair amount of time trying to do three buttonholes on the Kyler cardigan. They have the most convoluted buttonhole I’ve ever seen and when I got two rows past that I couldn’t even see the hole. So I had to rip that out and figure out my own preferred method.
Taking a break from that aggravation I got a bowl of the minestrone we bought from Lisa’s deli yesterday. It was ok but doesn’t begin to compare with what we get at The Pomodoro. She gave us one of her croissants to try. Pitiful… I know she is trying but it was flat, heavy and undercooked. She asked for our opinion so I left that job to Bill.
I finally headed back to do something fun at 11:30. Well, maybe “fun” wasn’t the word for it but I determined I would put the binding on the Disappearing Nine Patch quilt that I finished awhile back. It isn’t doing anyone any good sitting here unfinished. Here is the front and back of the quilt. You can’t tell from the pictures but each solid color block has a pretty embroidery outline stitched on it.

I was busy working on the quilt when the news came on about the downed plane in the Hudson River. That was something else! I certainly thank God for His keeping that from being the tragedy it could have been. When I was done with the quilt I played with embroidering some “Roman Squares” using an in-the-hoop quilting design I got the other day. I made a couple of them and put them with another 6x6 block I did in another design sometime ago. When I collect enough of this size blocks I can make a quilt from them.
I quit with that about five and got something to eat. Then I showered, dressed and headed off to rehearsal at church. We were very happy to have Debi back with us. When Mark arrived and got out of his Jeep he heard a hissing sound. A tire was losing air so that was a project for the guys after rehearsal. Rehearsal went well and we broke up at 8:45. Wava gave me the music I’m to play for the Ladies Prayer Day on Saturday. There are a couple of songs I don’t know so I’ll have to get there early and run over them.
Debi and I were the last ones to leave the building so we turned off the last of the lights. When we got outside, the guys were lining up to watch Larry H. change Mark’s tire. I called over to them “How many Christians does it take to change a tire?” TK replied, “A lot.” Of course, a couple of the guys had their headlights pointed so that Larry could see what he was doing. Debi and I left them and went our separate ways.
I dropped Nancy an email tonight and told her it was a good thing we hadn’t yet gone to the Victorian Rose Tea Room in Port Orchard. When I was at Joann’s yesterday I noted that they are closed until February 1 for renovations. When I saw the back of building I saw they were doing some work on half or more of the outside wall. I checked the website tonight and learned they are closed the whole month of January so I don’t know if this was planned or they had damage from the snow or what.
Nadine called today. Our conversation got cut short yesterday. She told me that she cancelled the appointment to have her cataract surgery. She is now going to see another doctor for a second opinion. She had been uneasy with the idea from the beginning and just didn’t feel good about this particular eye doctor. She was upset enough that she wasn’t sleeping. Someone else she talked to yesterday made some remark that decided her on canceling out. Actually, I have been less than enthralled with that same eye doctor. I’ve got to get back over there. Ever since they changed the lens in my glasses when the protective coating was coming off, I just haven’t been able to see right. Either my vision deteriorated badly while I waited for the new lens or there is something wrong with them. Now I just need to find my other pair of glasses so I’ll have something to wear if they find these are messed up.
And thus another day draws to a close and half a month in the New Year has flown by already.
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
