I got up at seven to a cold house and truly wished I had talked myself out of bed to turn on the heat when I first woke at 5:30. It was only 32° outside so it was right nippy inside, too. When I talked to Ellen yesterday she said they are expecting it to get down into the 20’s in South Carolina. I called to see how things went with her cataract and lens implant surgery yesterday. All seems to have gone fine. She said they literally have folks lined up on gurneys awaiting their turn for surgery.
I left for church at 9:00. Bible Study went well. One of our study questions asked us to list the things we as believers are to “put on” as named in Colossians 3:1-17. The next question asked which of the things we listed were the most uncomfortable for us to “put on” and I promptly replied “patience” and said “You all know how humble I am.” NOT… Obviously I have a lot of patience in some areas like my knitting where I can knit the same hat a gazillion times as long as it is in different colors. But there are other areas where my patience really gets tested.
We finished around noon and I headed off to JoAnn Fabrics in Port Orchard. There were having a big sale and I wanted to get some fabric so I can participate in an online Quilt-a-long. In addition to that I got fabric for three receiving blankets. I had a total of 12 pieces of fabric and they were all listed on the yellow slip the cutting clerk gives you. The checkout gal is supposed to be able to scan the info in but, oh no, not mine today. She went back and tried to reprint it and finally had to manually enter each piece and all the long string of numbers. When she was done she said, “Thank you for your patience.” I guffawed and told her of the “patience” moment at Bible Study.
From there I went to Office Depot for some more printer ink. I quickly found what I wanted and when I went to the checkout counter there was a sign saying to take your purchases to the copy center. I did and waited and waited and waited. I happened to glance back and saw that someone was at the checkout counter and now there were two customers ahead of me. Once again my patience was being tested. Since I’m sure God has a sense of humor, I figure He found all this very amusing!
My next stop was China Sun Buffet for some take home goodies. I asked for a fork and when I got to the car I took a bite of the peanut chicken to tide me over until I got home. I went to Key Center and got the mail. My Square in a Square Technique Ruler and book was waiting for me – one more thing to add to my “collection.”
It was four o’clock by time I finally got home. That gave me a couple hours to recuperate before picking Barbara up for Knit Guild. Bill and I snacked on the Chinese goodies while I caught up on email, phone calls, etc. I hit the road again at six, picked up Barbara and we joined 16 other ladies for Knit Guild. We had one new gal tonight. It is nice to see a number of younger ones mingled with the older ones. Debbie had surgery on her right arm over the holidays so she is knitting challenged at the moment. I learned that Verna spent several years in Mexico as a missionary so she speaks Spanish. Her son is pastor of a church in Tacoma that has a street ministry. She crochets a lot of afghans for this. We give her our leftovers and she turns them into afghans. She showed us #54 tonight - a brick pattern that was very gorgeous and one I’ve never seen before.
It was 9:40 when I got home. Debi had called. I stopped into her room at school today to give her Christmas present to her along with a cone of yarn for a project she is working on. Since she works I didn’t want to call her back that late. Hopefully she’ll make it to music rehearsal Thursday night.
Then I was ready for a little snack so I put some of the Chinese goodies on a small plate and put them in the microwave. I thought it was taking a long time for the buzzer to go off and I realized I set it for 75 minutes instead of 75 seconds. It was down to 71 minutes and some seconds left so I had some crispy rice and beans and the three bites of meat were on the tough side. Oops!
Hopefully I can do some fun stuff tomorrow. Before I forget, Larry P sent me some pix of the birthday party for Larry H so you can see the terrific cake I told you about.

God wants us to come to Him with our complaints. If we march through life pretending to smile while inside we bleed, we dishonor the relationship. — Philip Yancey
