As I walked down the hall to the bedroom Bill told me to turn off the heater. I asked him why the light was on in Clint’s room and as I got the door of the room I saw an armload of blankets. I screamed…. And Bill woke me up from that little nightmare!
I got the urge to machine knit a sweater today so I got the back, front and one sleeve done before I had to get ready to go to Larry’s birthday party. It started raining as I left early so I could go by Office Depot for some printer ink. That stuff seems to be getting more and more expensive but hard to get along without it. I arrived at church about three and caught a ride over to Burley Hall with one of the fellows from church. Larry’s mother-in-law also rode with us. Once there I chatted with various folks as we waited for Larry who was due to arrive at 3:30. I asked what ruse they were using to get him there. He was with another guy from church and was told that a woman’s car broke down and they were going to help. So he actually got there (at four) without knowing what was going on. There were at least 60 people there. Larry’s parents came from out of town for the occasion. A family friend made a terrific “sportsman” theme cake. Hopefully I’ll get a picture of it from one of the other folks there since I left my camera at home. Duh…
By five I was ready to head for home. TK, Connie and I caught a ride back to church with Larry P (not the birthday boy) and Vonnie. It was raining even more as I drove home. Now I’m going to see if I can finish knitting the wavy scarf. It is about 40 inches long. I hope I have enough yarn for another 20 inches. This morning’s devotional was a twist on the concept of New Year’s resolutions.
What if you were to ask God what He wants you to change, improve, or begin this year? He might tell you to:
• Demonstrate more of the fruit of the Spirit in your life, which is “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23).
• “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who . . . persecute you” (Matt. 5:44).
• “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).
• “Be content with such things as you have” (Heb. 13:5).
• “Walk according to His commandments” (2 John 1:6).
Resolutions are easier to keep when you rely on God.
