We managed to see in the New Year last night and then I hit the sack. I was up at 7:15 in eager anticipation of the trip to Fancy Image Yarn for the New Year’s Day potluck. Barbara and Bill were concerned about the weather. I called Myra and learned that they got an inch of new snow but her husband was out clearing it away in the parking lot. I told Barbara that if need be we could turn back. She picked me up at 10:30 and we were on our way. There was still plenty of snow along the way but the road was clear. I was amazed at the amount of snow around Shelton but we arrived at Myra’s with no problem. Her parking lot was a slushy mess so I got the van turned so that we were headed out. I knew that once the parking lot filled up it would be very difficult to turn Barbara’s big van around and get out of there.
We had 10-12 ladies there today. That was all that she had room for. We had a great assortment of dishes for the potluck and my tin of cookies was the only dessert. No yarn followed either me or Barbara home but we both came home with some patterns. I got a pattern for baby socks and I’m knitting a pair of them for Paige, the new baby in the family. I also got a pattern for the kids/adults earflap hat with.
We left Myra’s just after three o’clock. When we got to my house we exchanged our Christmas gifts. I gave her the “obsessed knitter” towel and she gave me a gorgeous pair of hummingbird socks. I was thrilled since I haven’t been able to find any except the white ankle socks I bought up at Mt. Rainier. Once inside Bill said my cousin Ken’s wife Cathy had just called. I returned her call. She is finding old pix of my part of the family as she goes through Ken’s mother’s stuff (my Aunt Lillian). She also found some real old crochet books and wanted to know if I wanted them. I always enjoy the vintage type stuff.
When I got hungry I snacked on some of last night’s leftover dinner. Bill went up to his favorite Tony’s for lunch today so he was happy. I said last night that we hadn’t been anywhere on New Year’s Eve since 2004. I read over last year’s New Year’s Eve journal and discovered that we went to a movie and dinner with our friends Mike and Georgia. I was smart enough not to make any resolutions for 2008 since I accomplished only 2 out of 10 for 2007. Nor will I make any for 2009. I’ve had enough pressures in life so that now I just want to enjoy it, although I would like a tad more organization.
As soon as I post this I’m going to get back to the baby socks. I can remember sitting out on the porch at Myra’s several years ago after we first met. She was teaching me to knit these baby socks and to use double point needles. I felt like I was all thumbs. But I can do it now and it might be fun to knit another pair of socks for Reign if I can figure out what size to knit. Too many ideas – too little time!
Wishing you a significant New Year!
